Rathgar Host very successful Inter Club Junior Event

By rathgartennis Thursday, 5th December 2013 | 0 comments
Rathgar recently hosted an inter club teen tennis event for 1st, 2nd and 3rd years.   3 mixed doubles pairings from Rathgar, Templeogue, Brookfield, Deerpark, St. Mary’s and Elm Park took to the courts on a beautiful autumn evening.  Derek organised the tennis format and was ably assisted by Laura Barry on the scoring. There was a good standard of tennis and a chance to play a number of different clubs.   Brookfield were the overall winners. Afterwards the teens had pizza and  the adults had a cuppa.  The place was buzzing!  The visiting clubs were enthusiastic about the event and some already plan to host similar events. Many thanks to all  who helped out on the evening.

On wet and windy Saturday November 2nd, a team of ‘Under 12’ boys and girls representing Rathgar T.C., braved the elements to play in this year’s Templeogue Day Cup.  In the face of strong opposition from a number of other clubs, they fought hard and enjoyed the experience.  The team comprised three doubles pairs –Girls Doubles (Ashling Dillon and Cara O’Shea), Boys Doubles (James Cody and Sam Czerniak) and Mixed Doubles (Amy McCabe and Hugh McGrane) - they all played very well! Rathgar Team reaches the semi final of the Stars and Stripes Cup

By rathgartennis Thursday, 7th November 2013 | 0 comments
Well done to the Under 12 girls and boys who have taken part in the newly formed Stars and Stripes League.  It has been a great success.  The Rathgar team did us proud in getting to the semi finals of the cup event. There is a friendly match on Saturday 9th  5-7pm in Rathgar against Lansdowne to wrap up this current league.  We hope to run Stars and Stripes  again in Spring 2014 and to add an Under 14 league too. Feedback from the other seven clubs participating has been very positive and all agree it has given the boys and girls lots of match practice and has helped them put the skills learned in coaching into action. It has also been an enjoyable and fun event too.’
