A team of U12 boys were invited to Castleknock TC on Sunday, 24/11/13. This was a concerted effort to give the kids singles matchplay practice. The boys got 2 good matches each and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Many thanks to Roz, Elizabeth and Lana at Castleknock.
The Under 12 Stars and Stripes team played the last match of the league on Saturday against Lansdowne and won by 49 points to 29. This means we finished in 3rd place overall which is a great result. A big contragulations to Brookfield who won the Cup final against Elm Park on Saturday 9th November and also to Deerpark who won the Shield against Carrickmines.
On wet and windy Saturday November 2nd, a team of ‘Under 12’ boys and girls representing Rathgar T.C., braved the elements to play in this year’s Templeogue Day Cup. In the face of strong opposition from a number of other clubs, they fought hard and enjoyed the experience. The team comprised three doubles pairs –Girls Doubles (Ashling Dillon and Cara O’Shea), Boys Doubles (James Cody and Sam Czerniak) and Mixed Doubles (Amy McCabe and Hugh McGrane) - they all played very well! Well done to the Under 12 girls and boys who have taken part in the newly formed Stars and Stripes League. It has been a great success. The Rathgar team did us proud in getting to the semi finals of the cup event. There is a friendly match on Saturday 9th 5-7pm in Rathgar against Lansdowne to wrap up this current league. We hope to run Stars and Stripes again in Spring 2014 and to add an Under 14 league too. Feedback from the other seven clubs participating has been very positive and all agree it has given the boys and girls lots of match practice and has helped them put the skills learned in coaching into action. It has also been an enjoyable and fun event too.’
Well done to Jack Collins, Evan Cooper, Eoin Donoghue, Adam Lunnon, James O’Donovan, Rossa O’Kane and Jack Scollard who played a doubles friendly match in Deerpark on Sunday 3 November. Thanks to Deerpark for an enjoyable event and pizza after!
Well done and hard luck to the 3 junior league teams that made it to the quarter finals on Sun, 20/10. Unfortunately all the teams lost. A celebration is planned to wrap up the junior leagues and players will be notified once the date has been firmed up.
The 12 person mixed team in the Stars and Stripes junior league lost 43 - 35 to Elm Park on Saturday. Hard luck. This new format league appeared to be enjoyed by all. Definitely one for the future.
Rathgar is taking part for the first time in the newly extended Stars and Stripes Junior League. The first matches were this Saturday and the Rathgar teams had fun and played well. The standing after week 1 is Rathgar 33 points, Brookfield 44 points. Good luck to them in the coming weeks.
We welcome Maeve back for another year in Rathgar to get the juniors in tip top shape! Please contact Dympna on 087 9368853 to book a space.
The teams are in for junior Under 17 and Under 14 leagues and Rathgar hopes to have great continued success in the leagues. Good luck to all.
