OUR AIM is to provide tennis for all ages and levels, in a friendly and welcoming environment, through our coaching, competitive and social programmes.
We have a very active and enthusiastic junior section; with large numbers of junior members. Some 250 children partake of our coaching facilities.
Our junior social programme is run by a committed junior tennis committee which strives to provide a variety of events to cater for all the different age groups.
Rathgar Junior Open
The Rathgar Junior Open was a huge success with just under 150 entries for children aged 6 to 11. Four days of great tennis, lots of fun, plenty of hard work and perfect weather. Our tournament motto:
RESPECT yourself and your opponent
ENJOY the tennis
was adhered to by all the players (as well as the parents!).
We had huge support from the members who volunteered their time generously for umpiring, in the kitchen and a myriad of jobs that need to be done in order to run an event of this size smoothly. Thank you to all of you. In particular, we had a contingent of juniors who were too old to play but wanted to be involved. Thank you for your help and for setting such a good precedent for the younger juniors.
This year, in addition to our tennis 10s events (U8, U9 and U10) we ran an U11 (green ball) event; the first of its kind in Ireland and sanctioned by Leinster Tennis (under whose umbrella we operate). Leinster Tennis is hoping to roll out this event over the summer. We had a significant entry and the event was appreciated by players and participants. We believe we set a sound starting point for Leinster Tennis.
Three of the finalists were homegrown juniors – Ali McClean, Ellie O’Kane and Sahir Mangat. Well done to them.
Thank you to the tournament committee and we look forward to an even more successful Junior Open this year.
